Deputy Prime Ministers of the Russian Federation Vitaly Savelyev and Alexey Overchuk made a working visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran. During the visit, meetings were held with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian, the First Vice-President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Reza Aref and the Minister of Roads and Urban Development of the Islamic Republic of Iran Farzaneh Sadegh.
The parties discussed issues of cooperation in the trade, economic and transport spheres. Particular attention was paid to the prospects for the implementation of the Intergovernmental Agreement on the project for the construction of the Rasht-Astara railway section on the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran for the development of transportation along the international transport corridor “North-South”.
“Iran is a strategic partner of Russia. The Government of the Russian Federation is interested in further strengthening friendly and partner Russian-Iranian relations and considers it important to accelerate the implementation of the Intergovernmental Agreement on the project for the construction of the Rasht-Astara railway section on the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran for the development of transportation along the international transport corridor “North-South”. The purpose of today’s trip was to discuss the current status of the implementation of this international project and current administrative and legal issues, the solution of which will accelerate joint work within the framework of its implementation. We have made a number of important strategic decisions and hope that in the near future we will begin to move towards their implementation,” noted Vitaly Savelyev.
Meeting participants on both sides also highly appreciated the results of joint work on developing trade and economic ties between Iran and the EAEU.
“We considered the issues of integration rapprochement between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Eurasian Economic Union. We were informed that the parliament of the Islamic Republic of Iran ratified the free trade agreement signed in December last year, and were also informed about the remaining technical procedures that will take some time. We discussed the participation of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the EAEU as an observer and the benefits that Iran will receive in this capacity. In addition, we considered a number of issues on the bilateral agenda that are of mutual interest,” said Alexey Overchuk.
