Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko spoke at a ceremonial public meeting dedicated to the 220th anniversary of the Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University.

The event also included Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov, Head of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, Advisor to the President of Russia, Special Representative of the President for International Cooperation in the Sphere of Transport Igor Levitin, Assistant to the President of Russia Vladimir Medinsky.

At the beginning of the event, Dmitry Chernyshenko read out a congratulation from Russian President Vladimir Putin on the 220th anniversary of KFU. The head of state noted that behind this impressive date there is a long journey, eventful and bright achievements, a whole constellation of outstanding scientists, professors and teachers, world-famous research schools.

“Today KFU is among the leading educational centers in the country. An atmosphere of bold scientific research and a strong student fraternity still reigns here, helping to achieve success in work and study, and to implement your plans. It is gratifying that, while maintaining established traditions, you are open to everything new. Experienced teachers and mentors, the most modern educational technologies, a serious research base allow you to look confidently into the future and unite gifted, initiative, and purposeful youth in the main university of the Volga region,” noted Vladimir Putin.

The Deputy Prime Minister joined the President’s congratulations and wished the university staff good health, prosperity, successful projects and new scientific achievements.

“As the curator of the Volga Federal District, I am proud that in our constellation of Russian universities we have the Kazan Federal University, which has been shining in the sky for the third century and holds the bar very high as an advanced scientific and educational center of our country, causing special pride,” Dmitry emphasized Chernyshenko.

As part of the ceremony, the Deputy Prime Minister presented state awards to KFU teachers. The honorary title “Honored Worker of Higher School of the Russian Federation” was awarded to Professor of the Institute of Management, Economics and Finance Ilgizar Gaisin, Head of the Department of the Institute of Social and Philosophical Sciences and Mass Communications Vasil Garifullin, Professor of the Institute of International Relations, History and Oriental Studies Oleg Sinitsyn, Head of the Department of the Institute of Mathematics and mechanics named after. N.I. Lobachevsky Liliana Shakirova and Deputy Director for Scientific Activities of the Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication Iskander Yarmakeev. The award “For Mentoring” was awarded to the director of the department for youth policy, social issues and development of the system of physical education and sports education, Yulia Vinogradova.

The head of the Ministry of Education and Science Valery Falkov presented departmental awards to KFU researchers. They were awarded to the director of the Institute of Information Technologies and Intelligent Systems Mikhail Abramsky, professors of the Institute of International Relations, History and Oriental Studies Yakov Grishin and Faina Ratner, professor of the Institute of Physics Yuri Zakharov, professor of the Institute of Geology and Oil and Gas Technologies Svetlana Zorina, head of the department of the Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology Ramziya Kiyamova , Head of the Department of the Chemical Institute named after. A.M. Having crossed the 220-year mark, the university is confidently paving the way to the future,” the minister said.

“Kazan University celebrates its 220th anniversary in the Year of Scientific and Technological Development of the Republic. It was marked by the most profound transformations in the domestic sphere of scientific research and development in modern history. To date, on the initiative of Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, an updated Strategy for the country’s scientific and technological development, national goals for the period until 2030 and priority areas of scientific and technological development have been adopted. We face serious tasks to ensure Russia’s technological leadership, its entry into the top ten world scientific powers and the achievement of many other ambitious targets. I am convinced that Kazan University will make a worthy contribution to solving these vital problems for the Fatherland,” noted the head of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov.

On behalf of Kazan University, KFU Rector Lenar Safin thanked for the warm words.

“Today Kazan University is one of the leading universities in our country. All this is the work of a large team and the contribution of each individual. I would like to express my special gratitude and appreciation to our veterans. Today they are here with us. Low bow to you. I wish the entire team – teachers, staff and students – success, good health and prosperity for many years to come. Kazan University will always strive for new milestones and new achievements for the benefit of Russia,” said the rector.

Dmitry Chernyshenko also held a meeting with members of the Council of Rectors and rectors of universities in the Republic of Tatarstan. The participants discussed the implementation of Russia’s national development goals until 2030.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the important role of universities in achieving national goals, noting the significant scientific and technological potential of the Volga Federal District and the active participation of its universities in federal support programs.

He also focused on the need to transform them to meet the needs of the economy and develop unified approaches to university development strategies, including infrastructure and personnel.

The head of the Ministry of Education and Science Valery Falkov drew the attention of the rectors to the fact that as part of improving the higher education system, the fundamental core of engineering, pedagogical, and medical education will be strengthened. At the same time, in order to prepare strong professional personnel, universities must pay close attention to the practical training of students.

Separately, the minister noted the importance of training future engineers and involving representatives of the real sector of the economy in this work.
